thanksgiving 2011

thanksgiving was good to us this year. on thanksgiving day, we headed to my family's gathering. we had cajun smoked turkey, honey baked ham, broccoli casserole, mashed potatoes, homemade stuffing and an assortment of desserts including pistachio salad (one of my favs!). dave and i are cutting back on our meat intake (i can't call myself a vegetarian because i still eat meat) [rarely now] so it was really hard to not just pig out on meat, but we did have some, just not as much as we would normally allow ourselves.  after we all ate lunch, we played texas hold 'em and my little brother walked away with about $5k (in chips). all and all a fun day with family. on friday, we headed out to niena's to stay the night and celebrate thanksgiving with more of dave's family on saturday. we woke up to the smell of coffee and food cooking in the oven. niena made a delicious turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. someone brought slow cooked beans, green bean casserole, and assorted desserts. after everyone ate, dave took the kiddos outside while niena built a fire. i love niena's porch and her yard so i took tons of photos.  dave showed the bigger kids how to shoot bb guns. you can probably guess what they want for christmas now! i stayed inside because it was cold... we started a game of texas hold 'em and i think it's safe to say that i won! yahoo! we stayed an extra night and hung out with niena on sunday. (sorry you missed church) she took us to breakfast at ihop and then helped us take several of our engagement photos. we had a lot of fun, but it was cold and windy. before we left whitewright, we got our christmas decorations down. dave played tetris with all of our stuff in the car, and somehow managed to fit everything (including 3 huge tubs of christmas decor) in our little car. it was good to be home, but we had so much fun with all of our family!
