i feel it's necessary every year to write down some goals for the coming year... even though i usually don't follow them too well.. haha. it's always a good practice to at least set realistic goals for oneself. here we go.

  1. skate more. work harder. (this is just a given. if i want to be a better skater, i need to skate more. also, i got new skates, so that's enough to motivate a girl, right?)
  2. become and (stay) more organized.  (i am already a pretty organized person, but we could all use improvements. this includes keeping a cleaner house. it'll stay clean for a few days and then dave and i both get lazy and start living like slobs again. my mama didn't raise now slob!)
  3. eat healthier. (this is always on my list of improvements.I LOVE BUFFALO CHICKEN!)
  4. work out more. (this really goes hand in hand with number three... i want to loose weight, so i need to eat healthier and exercise. i'd really love to drop 15-20 pounds before we get married.)
  5. work out more. (this really goes hand in hand with number three... i want to loose weight, so i need to eat healthier and exercise. i'd really love to drop 15-20 pounds before we get married.)
  6. start actively planning the wedding. (i have been putting it off, but dave and i really need to sit down and confirm in stone what we want out of the ceremony and reception. even if it's going to be a small affair.)
  7. balance my checkbook. (i know there is an app for my online banking and it's pretty accurate, but i think i would have a better hold on my money if i actually have to enter each purchase i make into a register. i am using balance on the iPhone. i love it.)
  8. be a nicer person.(sometimes i come home from work and i am so mean. i want to not be like this. )
  9. try new things.(i am pretty good about this, but i want to expand it. there are tons of times that dave asks me to watch a movie with him and i blow it off because it looks dumb. i want to be more open minded to new things.)
  10. take more photos.(i've always been good at this, but in the last year or so, i have started to slack. i love looking back at all of our fun memories from over the years... i also want to make sure i am putting all of these memories on flickr so that they are there if i ever need them.)

i feel like all of these goals are attainable if i just keep at it. a new year, a new me, right? i just ordered a new weekly planner to help with number 2. i think that's a great start to the new year. everyone have a safe, happy new year. dave and i will be partying with friends!!

milestone: dave graduates

dave graduated y'all! i am so very proud of him. i know there were many days when he just wanted to say "f it" and give up, but the important thing is, he didn't. he finished what he started and is now a graduate with a BFA. it was a long time coming, and made the last 4 years of struggle worth it. i know he will look back at his college days and feel pride in himself, and really, that's all that matters.

please excuse the poor quality of these photos. dave's artwork is best seen, as all artwork is, in person.

daily writing prompt

Write a brief bit of fiction that includes the phrase,
"To be honest..."

she knew all to well that what she was doing was wrong and that it would most likely ruin her life forever. to be honest, she didn't care. all she wanted was to make herself happy, no matter the cost. she was willing to risk it all. she thought "life is too short to not be happy." she knew what she needed to do, so she ran.

christmas cards 2011

dave and i have already started the tradition of sending out christmas cards yearly. last year, i think we only did it digitally, but we did send them out. the most important thing to me, is that we take the photos.... every year i try to think of something super creative and one of a kind. it never happens that way. this year, we used our engagement photos for our cards. i just made a quick collage for the more serious one. for our goofy one, i decided that we should use the photo of us shooting the bb guns and kind of play on christmas story. i thought it would be funny. i was lazy and used piknik to do it on my lunch break at work, but i think they turned out pretty cute.

birth in 60 seconds

Write what you know about your own birth.

what do i know about my own birth? i know that my mom went into labor on a sunday and had me on a tuesday morning (11:32 am). i know that she was the youngest woman to be giving birth at that hospital that day. i know that i was 7lbs. 12 oz. i looked like a little red baby with brown hair. my grandparents thought i looked like a little papoose. eventually, they would call me their gypsy because i would shake my rattle at them.

Today's Writing Prompt: List
Write a short list.

  • new skates
  • new wheels
  • new mouth guard
  • time with family
  • good food
  • sleeping in
  • christmas music
  • texas hold 'em
  • time with dave
  • holiday cheer
  • wonderful smells

My list are things I am looking forward to in the coming weeks. I found this website in an attempt to blog more often. you write whatever they prompt you to for 60 seconds. I feel like this could get my brain juices moving in the morning and get me prepared for the day as well. It couldn't hurt right? I am excited to have a few days off from work to just relax and let my hair down. I feel like lately I am really pushing myself. Sometimes you need to just sit back and take it all in.
